A clinic on wheels

A full dental hygiene clinic, parked outside Douglas College

Our Douglas clinic isn’t a room down a hallway. It’s a self-contained mobile dental hygiene clinic that parks on Royal Avenue, right outside the New Westminster campus, by appointment on Mondays. Step inside and it works like any treatment room, with a dental chair, digital X-rays, an intraoral camera and everything your hygienist needs for a complete cleaning.

Instruments are packaged and sterilized in an autoclave for every session, exactly as they would be in a fixed clinic. You get the same services as our other campus clinics. The only real difference is that we’re closer to your next class.

Digital X-rays

Taken on board, only when you need them.

Intraoral camera

Autoclave sterilized

Instruments packaged and sterilized for every session.

Fully self-contained

Chair, equipment and supplies, all on board.

Why it’s worth it

A cleaning does more than freshen your breath

Brushing and flossing handle the day to day, but they can’t reach the hardened tartar that builds up below the gumline. Left alone, that build-up is what leads to bleeding gums, stubborn bad breath, and eventually the kind of decay that means a dentist and a much bigger bill.

A professional cleaning clears it out, smooths every tooth so plaque has less to cling to, and gives a trained hygienist the chance to catch a small problem while it’s still small. Most people walk out feeling like they’ve hit reset.

Removes tartar

The hardened build-up a toothbrush simply can't shift.

Fresher breath

The kind that actually lasts, not just until lunch.

Early warning

Cavities and gum disease spotted before they hurt.

A brighter smile

Surface stains lift off, no whitening required.

Hygienist or dentist?

Looking for a dental clinic in New Westminster for a cleaning?

A lot of people search for a dentist in New Westminster or a dental clinic when what they actually need is a cleaning. Here’s the part most people don’t know: in British Columbia a registered dental hygienist can do your cleaning, scaling, polishing and exam directly, with no dentist referral. That’s the whole visit most people go to a dental office for.

So if you’re looking for a dentist near Douglas College, or comparing dental clinics in New Westminster and Surrey, a dedicated dental hygiene clinic like ours is often the faster, more affordable option for routine care. If you ever need a filling, crown or extraction, we’ll point you to a trusted dentist for that part.

What to expect

Your visit, start to finish

First time at an independent dental hygiene clinic? Here’s exactly how an appointment goes.

1

A quick chat

We review your medical and dental history, including any medications and allergies, plus anything that's been bothering you.

2

A gentle, comprehensive exam

We assess the hard and soft tissue, take digital X-rays if you need them, and check how your daily oral hygiene routine is working.

3

Scaling

We remove plaque and tartar from above and below the gumline.

4

Polishing

A smooth finish that leaves teeth feeling clean and looking brighter.

5

Fluoride (optional)

A quick fluoride treatment to strengthen enamel. The Douglas student plan covers it once a year, with your recall visit. On other plans we check first, and if it isn't covered you can add it for $20.

6

Simple advice

A few no-pressure tips to keep it that way, and a dentist referral only if you need one.

A cleaning appointment takes about 50 minutes. Book twice a year and you’ll rarely need anything more.

Mobile dental cleaning

Can't make it to campus? We can bring a professional cleaning to you. Book it online just like any other appointment.

Brighten your smile

Teeth whitening in New Westminster

Coffee, tea, red wine and time all dull a smile. Our professional whitening lifts those deeper stains in a single visit, with a registered hygienist watching your gums the whole way. It’s far stronger than a drugstore kit, and you can add it to a regular cleaning and walk out a few shades brighter the same day.

Using your coverage

Chances are, your plan
already covers it

We bill most student and extended health plans directly, so in most cases you pay $0 at the desk. Once you book, we send a predetermination to your insurer to confirm what’s covered. If anything falls outside your plan, we tell you before your appointment, so there are never any surprises.

Healthy Smile is part of the Alumo Dental Network (formerly the Studentcare Dental Network), the provider network for the Douglas Students’ Union plan. That’s what turns your plan’s 80% into full coverage for cleanings and recall exams.

  • Douglas students: the DSU plan covers cleanings and recall exams at 80%, and as a network clinic we cover the other 20%, with up to $600 a year for dental. The plan year runs September 1 to August 31, or January 1 to August 31 if you start in January. It resets every year whether you use it or not, and most students don’t.
  • What’s included: one recall visit every 12 months, covering your exam, cleaning and polish, X-rays and fluoride, plus up to three units of scaling a year. We check what you have left before you book.
  • New students: you’re covered from the start of term, but the plan has a blackout period of up to 60 days before insurers allow direct billing. Come in during that window and you pay up front, then claim it back.
  • Students from other schools: we direct bill all student plans, so your plan from SFU, BCIT, Langara or any other college or university works here too.
  • Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP): we’re registered with the federal plan at all of our locations, including Douglas College.
